León Tolstoy (Rusia, 1828- 1910) novelista y anarquista, pacifista y cristiano, creó una escuela en 1859 para los hijos de los campesinos del lugar donde nació y creció, en Yasnaia Polyana, siendo él mismo su profesor. Este libro narra su experiencia.
“El maestro está siempre llevado involuntariamente a escoger para él el procedimiento de enseñanza más cómodo. ¡Cuanto más cómodo es este procedimiento para el maestro, más incómodo es para los discípulos! Sólo es bueno aquel que satisface a los alumnos.” (Tolstoy)
